  • Life Technologies UCI - Episode 1

This is the 1st of a 6-part animated series created for Life Technologies. With a style inspired by the live action/animated educational films of the ’50′s and ’60′s, these short films take scientists and engineers through the innovation process as defined by the design firm IDEO.

  • EMAS Retention Pro - Product Launch

Education Systems hired us to create a demo for their latest software product. Looking at the competition, we realized there were two opportunities: 1) have fun with subject matter that everyone else treated as dry; 2) demonstrate to the customer that we understand their needs by personifying their problem with the main character. In this product demo disguised as a sitcom, we did both.

  • Intel CES 7-screen Promo

Produced as a work for hire by the great folks at TBA Global Events to showcase Sony’s digital strategy. This was shot over the holidays and edited by an incredible team…all in time for its debut in early January at CES. Though the content is straightforward (talking heads + clips + effects), the fact that it was shown simultaneously on 7 screens in a Cineramadome-inspired environment was challenging.

  • Shorthand Mobile demo

At the far end of the budget spectrum (as in almost no budget), this product demo is basically a glorified PowerPoint. Or, in this case, Keynote. Simple narrative, effects and music to drive home a point. That just because someone doesn’t have a smartphone with data and apps, doesn’t mean their phone has to suck.

  • Why Not to Attend the Rady School of Management

This was a tongue-in-cheek message we created for the Admissions Department of UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management. The counter-intuitive approach – disguising the best aspects of the graduate business school as reasons NOT to attend – became a surprisingly effective marketing tool for Admissions. Some students who matriculated stated that it was this video that changed their minds and led them to attend the school.

  • Too Many Cooks

We love these chefs from Mixx, a restaurant from a bygone era that was our favorite. All of the chefs are related and we used to watch them bicker and cook. Then, one day, BING! The lightbulb went off. These three chefs would make for an awesome cooking show. So we shot a pilot for the show. Here’s a trailer of the madness that ensued when we tried to make our own cooking show.

  • Where Have You Been?

Students speaking to students about what brought them to graduate school. The interviews were shot against a greenscreen to give us maximum flexibility and the ability to keep a “talking heads” video visually interesting.

  • Seize This Moment

This video was commissioned by the Rady School of Management, a graduate business school that launched at UC San Diego, just as the world economy was imploding. The video was created with two goals in mind: 1) energize the donor base; and 2) remind constituents of what a business school can be when created with the right vision. Judging from the results from the gala at which this premiered, mission accomplished.

  • Thank You

One of the problems with fundraising is the way they close the loop on things. Or, rather, the way non-profits DON’T close the loop on things. In working with The Rady School of Management, we wanted to create a companion piece for their Success Through Scholarships campaign that could be sent to all donors so that the beneficiaries of their generosity could say “thank you” in their own words.

  • Lead the Way

This video was created for UC San Diego and the NIH as part of the Lead the Way campaign for which I was Creative Director. This is a first-of-its-kind public health campaign and we thought a video would be a great way to explain what we were doing and why. This was a last-minute addition to our scope of work and we completed the video in 3 weeks. Phew!
